Medical Treatment and Evacuation Model - NAMES

Naval Research Laboratory; Washington, DC

The Names model simulates the medical treatment and evacuation of patients from theaters of operation. It tracks each patient through the medical evacuation chain from the time the patient enters it until he leaves by returning to duty, or by being evacuated from the theater.

The analyst is free to choose such parameters of the simulation as the number and types of medical facilities and personnel assigned to each level of operation in the theater, the number and types of evacuation vehicles, such as helicopters and ambulances, and the rules by which patients are moved from point to point within the system.

With this model, the military analyst is able to determine the impact of logistics decisions on the mortality rate of patients, and assess the requirements for surgeons, evacuation vehicles, and convalescent beds inside and outside a zone of combat.
